Well, well, well what can we say ... Year 2 have had a brilliant first week back in school. They have all settled in well and are beginning to adapt to year 2 life.
In our maths work we have been focusing on our place value knowledge and recognising that we can draw the number to help us understand which digit belongs to the tens and which digit belongs to the ones. We have also been discussing as a whole class how we can make sure that our maths books are the best they can be. We have created a list of non-negotiables that we should see when we look in our maths books - please have a look at this in the photos below!
In our literacy work we have started reading a brand new story "The Bear and the Piano." We have been looking at the challenging vocabulary in the book and trying to use this in some super sentences. We have also created our checklist for our writing and topic books to ensure that our work is presented beautifully and they are the best they can be!
In our topic work we have started our work with our brand new topic "Would a bear make a good pet?" We found a mysterious footprint in our classroom and we had to investigate and discover what had made the footprint! We discovered it was a bear! We have been looking at what a bear needs to be able to survive and have been focusing on some keywords; water, shelter, excrete and exercise. We have been making play dough bears then comparing these to real life bears and recognising what each of them needs to be able to survive.
Well done Year 2 you have had a brilliant first week back ... now let's keep up the good work!
