Autumn 1

Journey to the Centre of the Earth

This half term we are going on a journey … we are on a journey to the centre of the Earth!

We are going to study the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, where we will find out when the eruption happened, how it happened and where it happened. You are then all going to become journalists and are going to report on the eruption in the form of a newspaper.

We are going to find out what the Earth is made up of and what is below the Earth’s crust. We are going to find out why we have volcanoes and earthquakes and how this happens and if some places are more prone to these disasters more than others...

You never know … we may even get to explore a volcano!

We are going to find out about the different types of rocks we have, what makes them different and how we can distinguish between them all.

We are going to be having a look at the formation of rocks and the journey they have travelled into our pocket by studying The Pebble in my Pocket during guided reading.
