Week 5 updates

Yet another busy week gone by and only one more left to go until half term!

This week the children have been pushing on in their writing. They looked at different diary entries and identified the features that helped them to complete a shared write. They will use this to help them write their own diary entries next week. On Thursday, the whole school took part in '500 word stories' which is a BBC competition. They watched the live lesson  and loved it when David Walliams came on to read the final story. We are going to be writing our own 500 word stories and hopefully submitting some into the competition.

We have been moving forward with our written multiplication. They have been working so hard and stretching themselves to bigger numbers. Next week we are going to looking at multiplying by 2 digit numbers.

As part of our topic work, we started the week looking at geographical features of Chadderton and identifying the differences between urban and rural areas. The children discussed the advantages and disadvantages of living in an urban area, being without WIFI or a good internet connection, seemed to be the key theme they were worried about.

On Tuesday, it was 'Safer internet day' and the whole school was involved. We ran an assembly in the afternoon and Year 5 had a focus on giving consent and keeping yourself safe when online. They had to make a video blog on iMovie to tell people how they can protect themselves and explain what consent meant. They had a really fun afternoon, some children went home and continued making their videos which was great to hear.

We have sent a letter out tonight about an upcoming trip, if you haven't received the letter, I have attached a copy on our class page.

Finally as part of our next topic, we have asked the children to bring in some pictures of them as babies, toddlers and younger children (around age 5-6). This is part of their homework this week, along with reading 3 times and practicing their spellings.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
