Year 1

A very warm welcome, one and all, to the homepage for our Year 1 class 2012/13!

Miss Diamond, Mrs Ashton and Miss Clune will be uploading photographs, newsletters and general news surrounding the exciting topics, learning and activities in Year 1.
Please follow us through our learning journey and watch as the magic unfolds...!

Just a few words about how Year 1 looks. The transition from reception to year 1 begins with children receiving shorter teaching inputs and learning through play. They are sensitively introduced to the national curriculum whereby maths and English is the primary focus. These subjects are accompanied throughout the year with the teaching of science, P.E. music, history, geography, D.T. and art in the form of all exciting TOPICS.

Children are taught reading skills through our daily phonics sessions. We aim to read with them once or twice a week during a guided reading session and once a week with a teaching assistant; with books being changed at a minimum of twice a week. Your support at home with reading is invaluable and your child is welcome to change their book whenever it is finished to encourage reading at home.

If you have access to a computer and wish to support them with their learning I strongly recommend the website www.iboard.co.uk . You could also access Education City using your child's personal LOG-IN.

On Mondays and Thursdays we have P.E. Could you kindly ensure earnings are removed and that your child has a P.E. kit in school on these days. Thank you! It is of the highest importance that the children bring FULL kit on both of these days.

If you have any brief queries regarding your child please come and see us in the mornings. If you wish to discuss any matter at greater depth, please arrange an appointment with Miss Diamond and I’ll be happy to discuss any concerns.

Kind regards,

Year 1 staff

Best of luck to you in BIG SCHOOL boys and girls...Here we go!!
