Super Second Week
As all our parents, guardians and grandparents know, Year 1 love to solve a problem. They are currently solving a very big one! My daughter, sought their help this week by sending Year 1 a letter. The children were quite upset to hear that she had visited school in the holidays to help, and had left her much loved toy poodle!
After much discussion, the children decided to write ‘Lost’ posters to display around school. Of course every good deed deserves a reward, so Year 1 have decided to award 10 Dojos to the person who finds poodle.
At the time of writing this post, there had been no sightings, but we are hoping poodle will be found very soon and reunited with his owner.
As well as solving problems to help others, Year 1 have been solving mathematical problems by sorting, grouping and counting. They have had some fantastic discussions about why they have sorted objects in different ways, and they are becoming very proficient at organising groups of objects to compare their quantities.
Finally, our Year 1 have once again been focused and engaged with our Independent Learning Challenges. I am always amazed with what a creative group of children they are. They just don’t stop when they are finished and just keep on challenging themselves.
I am really looking forward to next week, when we are going back in time to research the toys that children played with long ago. To truly understand we are going to play with the toys and games! I will also be sending home your child's first set of spellings, so please check their book bag next Friday.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photographs that give you a snapshot of our week. Have a lovely weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
