Week 5

One of the things I love about Year 4, is that when they are given something new in Maths, they have a real desire to take it on board and are really pleased with themselves when that new concept finally clicks. We have been doing division this week and it has been tricky, but well done to everyone for persevering and getting their heads round a tricky concept. They have realised what a bonus it is to know their times tables!

The highlight of our learning this week, was to take part in the BBC live 500 word challenge. We watched the programme live and made notes as it went along and have started to put our ideas down in our stories. I do hope some of them get chosen to be entered into the BBC competition.

Next half term, we have applied to enter the Oldham Choral Speaking competition in March. It takes place at the  Oldham Colliseum theatre and should be a great experience. The children have to learn and perform two poems which take about 6 minutes in total. I will be sending at least one of the poems home so that the children can begin to learn it over half term.

Towards the end of the half term, we are also going on a trip to fit in with our new topic. We will get details to you as soon as possible.

I would also like to welcome Mrs Moon to our team next half term. She is a student on placement and will be teaching alongside myself and the rest of the team until Easter. She has been in school this week and the children have been getting to know her.
