Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Bake Sale

Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Jenny spoke to Miss Ashton about how we could raise some money to support the relief work in Japan. It was decided that a bake sale was a good way to raise some money and year 4 set to work organising it.

The children wrote letters to the parents and carers, and to Mrs Johnson in the kitchen to ask if we could use the ovens to cook some cakes we made, designed some posters and made some cakes to sell.

On the day we spent the morning baking cakes and the afternoon icing and selling them. The children decided how much cakes should sell for and some children, and their parents, helped us sell the cakes outside school at 3pm (the children had to find the total amount for the purchases and work out the change needed to be given)

The cake sale raised over £100 which has been sent to the Red Cross Earthquake and Tsunami appeal.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to all the children and parents who donated cakes and who bought cakes. We really enjoyed ourselves and feel that we have made a difference.
