Personal Development

At Whitegate End our values are;

* We nurture

* We act with integrity

* we show determination

Our approach to personal development provides all children with a sense of belonging and an understanding of the contributions they can make to their Community and the Wider world. Personal Development is at the heart of everything we do. It encourages promotes, adopts and embeds a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners.

We support children to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, personal development develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. The benefits to pupils of such an approach are numerous as this prepares them to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their academic potential.

Our whole school approach promotes effective relationships between all members of the school community. The promotion of pupils’ personal and social development underpins other learning. Our approach to personal development assists children and young people to build their personal identities, confidence and self-esteem and understand what influences their decisions. Developing self-understanding, empathy and the ability to work with others helps our children to enjoy healthy and productive relationships in all aspects of their lives.

Our Personal Development Offer

Across school we follow the  3D-Dimensions programme for PSHE which is linked directly to the recently updated PSHE/RSE curriculum as set by the DFE. There is flexibility within the programme to supplement these sessions with content related to current needs within the school. All sessions are delivered in an age appropriate child friendly style by their class teacher.

The lesson overviews for each year group are displayed below.  For additional information please read through our PSHE/RSE policy which can be found on our policy documents page.

As part of our personal development offer we use materials from 'My Happy Mind' an NHS backed children's well being programme which will help support our children's mental health and well being whilst also supporting the PSHE curriculum. We have completed trauma informed training and the mental health of all our children and staff is extremely important to us all. Each week we start with a 'My Happy Mind' session to ensure we are in a positive frame of mind and develop key skills to understand how we are feeling and how to manage these feelings. At the end of the week we reflect on our weekly focus and celebrate this in our classes.
