Autumn

Year 4 will be building upon their knowledge of their local area to begin thinking about the UK as a whole. We will start by recalling our general knowledge of the UK and its nations before before building our understanding of the different regions and counties and making comparisons between the plant life, topography, and biomes of each area. We will also discuss human and physical features including UK rivers, mountains and coasts. During the second half of the term our focus will move towards the water cycle.

In our reading and writing we will focus on 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross Mackenzie. As part of this we will be writing a setting description and a persuasive text. We will be reading this book during our whole class reading lessons to help develop our confidence and fluency and we will discuss each chapter to support the development of our inference skills.

In our maths lessons, we will begin working in our brand new 'Power Maths' workbooks and following this new scheme of work. This will begin by deepening children's understanding of place value and the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

During this term our science work will focus on classification followed by states of matter.

We are asking for your support to encourage your child by talking about their learning so please take a look at the documents below which will give an overview of our learning this term.
