During Autumn, our guided reading sessions will be on The Shark-Headed-Bear-Thing and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. During our guided reading sessions, we will be working on expanding skill set.Our sessions will take place every day, and there will be a specific focus during each session. We do encourage the children to read as much as possible at home and expect a minimum of 3 entries in reading records.
Our writing will follow a sequence where the children will be writing for a purpose, we will also focus on 2 GPS skills per writing cycle. During Autumn 1, we will be revising previous learning to ensure this is embedded before introducing new objectives.
Our RE sessions will focus on Christianity, Hinduism and Islam as we compare the similiarities between all these religions as well as find out why and how they celebrate significant events during their religious calendars.
In year 4 our focus in geography will be on the UK. We will look at some of its iconic landmarks and discuss whether they are human or physical features of the landscape. We will learn about mountains, vegetation and the country's climate during Autumn 1 before moving onto our rivers and the water cycle in Autumn 2. We will also develop our map reading skills by learning about contour lines, 6-figure grid references and digital maps.
In science this term, our first key question is 'What happens to the food we eat?' We will learn about the digestive system, teeth and food chains. We will conduct an investigation to find out how different drinks affect our teeth.
Please find below the information sent out at the beginning of the term with the children as well as the knowledge organiser for Geography.
