During Spring 1, Year 4, we focus and understand the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for England, up to the time of Edward the Confessor. We consider the trends and contrast them with the Roman invasion of Britain around 500 years earlier, which they learnt about in Year 3. We look at a range of sources and compare them with the accuracy that we have in modern day Britain.
in Spring 2, we will also learn about the Stone Age and make comparisons between living now and then. They will make some links between and across periods, such as the differences between clothes, food, buildings or transport and identify where some periods fit into a chronological framework by noting connections, notable individuals, trends and contrasts over time.
In our reading and writing we will focus on Varjak Paw by S. F. Said. This will involve writing a description on the life of a Viking, a Diary entry, a non-chronological report linked to the Stone Age and a poem for entertainment purposes. . Alongside this, we will be reading the book in our whole class reading sessions to improve the fluency of our reading to answer a range of questions.
In our Maths work, we will start our brand new 'Power Maths' scheme. This will begin with looking at Multiplication and Divison, Fractions, Length and Perimeter and Decimals.
Our science work will focus on 'Sound and Electricity' and will build on our previous learning.
We are asking for your support to talk to your child about their learning so please take the time to have a look at the documents below which give you an overview of our learning for the term.
