At Whitegate End, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, safe and inspired every single day.
We are a warm, inclusive and ambitious school where children are known, valued and encouraged to discover what they are capable of.
We want every child to:
BELONG — to feel that they are known, valued and an important part of our community.
FEEL SAFE — to feel secure enough to be themselves, make mistakes, ask questions and take on new challenges.
THRIVE — to develop the knowledge, confidence, skills and determination they need to succeed in school and beyond.
We prepare children for life, not simply for the next stage of their education. Through great teaching, an ambitious curriculum and a wide range of experiences, we help children develop academically, socially, emotionally and personally.
We want our children to leave Whitegate End knowing who they are, understanding their place in the world and believing that they can make a positive difference.
Our three values underpin everything we do at Whitegate End.
They shape the way we learn, the way we treat one another and the way we contribute to our school and wider community.
We care for one another.
We believe that strong relationships are at the heart of a successful school.
We listen. We support. We encourage. We celebrate one another.
We recognise that every child is unique, with their own experiences, strengths and needs. We take the time to know our children and families and to understand what helps each child to feel secure and succeed.
We create a culture where kindness matters and where people look out for one another.
We Nurture means that we care about people.
We do the right thing.
We encourage our children to be honest, respectful and responsible.
We teach children that their actions matter and that they have a responsibility towards themselves, other people and their community.
We listen to different perspectives. We treat people fairly. We admit when we have made a mistake and take responsibility for putting things right.
We do the right thing even when it is difficult and even when nobody is watching.
We Act With Integrity means that our actions reflect our values.
We keep going when things become difficult.
Learning is not always easy — and that is part of the journey.
We encourage children to have a go, make mistakes, try again, ask for help and find different ways to solve problems.
We celebrate effort, progress and perseverance rather than expecting everything to be perfect first time.
We want children to develop the confidence to face challenges and the determination to keep going when things don’t work out.
We Show Determination means that we don’t give up.
KNOW MORE. REMEMBER MORE. DO MORE.
We believe that great education gives children both knowledge and opportunity.
Our curriculum is designed to build important knowledge and vocabulary over time, helping children make meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them.
We want our children to:
KNOW MORE
Develop a rich body of knowledge about themselves, their community and the wider world.
REMEMBER MORE
Build on previous learning so that important knowledge becomes secure and can be connected to new ideas.
DO MORE
Use what they know to think, communicate, solve problems, create, make decisions and contribute to the world around them.
But education at Whitegate End is about more than academic achievement.
We want children to develop the confidence, character, independence and aspirations they need to succeed in life.
Great teaching is at the heart of Whitegate End.
We want every child to experience teaching that is ambitious, purposeful and responsive to their needs.
Our teachers build carefully on what children already know, introduce new knowledge and vocabulary, check understanding and help children become increasingly independent learners.
We want children to understand:
What am I learning?
Why am I learning it?
What do I already know?
How can I use what I know?
How can I improve?
We continually develop our teaching because we believe that every child deserves to experience excellent teaching every day.
Our Whitegate End Great Teaching Framework provides a shared language and understanding of what great teaching looks like across our school.
Inclusion is part of who we are.
We recognise and celebrate the different experiences, backgrounds, strengths and needs of our children and families.
We work closely with parents, carers and professionals to remove barriers to learning and participation and to make sure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
We believe that children should not have to fit into school.
We should make school work for children.
Our commitment to inclusion is reflected throughout school life, including our SEND provision and The Hive, our specialist SEMH provision.
The Hive provides targeted support for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, while maintaining strong relationships with the wider school community.
We believe that inclusion is not something we provide for some children.
It is part of who we are.
Education at Whitegate End is about more than preparing children for the next year group.
We want children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for life.
Throughout their time with us, children have opportunities to:
We want children to leave Whitegate End ready to take their next steps with confidence.
Whitegate End is proud to be part of Oldham and Greater Manchester.
We want our children to understand their local community and the people, places, history and culture that have shaped it.
As children move through our school, their understanding of the world gradually expands — from themselves and their families, to their school and community, to Oldham and Greater Manchester, the United Kingdom, Europe and the wider world.
We want children to know where they come from while developing the knowledge, curiosity and confidence to explore where they could go.
We are proud of our place in Greater Manchester and the opportunities this gives our children to experience its history, culture, music, sport, creativity and communities.
